RAYTOWN, Mo. - There are 600 U.S. athletes competing in the Olympic Games, and Raytown native Maurice Mitchell is one of them.

The first-time Olympian will be running in the 200-meter race Aug. 7. Tonight, Mitchell will be one of several Kansas City area athletes walking in the opening ceremony.

We Skyped with Mitchell earlier Friday, before he left for the evening's big event.

"They're going to dress us up really nice,” Mitchell said. “I have my outfit ready, so we're just going to look really good out there. I'm assuming we're going to walk out, carry the flag and just have a good time and enjoy the moment; embrace the moment."

Mitchell said he's never watched an opening ceremony, not even on television.
