KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Sporting Kansas City will be without one of their star players for a while.
Midfielder Roger Espinoza is out 2-4 weeks with a right ankle sprain. Espinoza suffered a right anterior medial ankle sprain during the second half stoppage time in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Columbus.
The injury means Espinoza will not join Honduras for the team’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Panama on Oct. 12 and Canada on Oct. 16. The 25-year-old Espinoza has played in a career-high 26 games this season.
First-place Sporting KC has two games left, starting Oct. 20 at the New York Red Bulls.
