SONOMA, Calif. - The dry spell for Emporia’s Clint Bowyer is over.
The NASCAR driver raced to his first victory on a road course. It happened Sunday in Sonoma, Calif. in the Toyota/Save Mart 350 when Stewart held off a late surge by Tony Stewart and bumps from Kurt Busch.
It was Bowyer’s sixth victory of his Cup career and first win for Michael Waltrip Racing. The 33-year-old Bowyer joined Waltrip’s team this season after failing to reach a contact agreement with Richard Childress Racing.
The win moved Bowyer up to seventh in the Sprint Cup standings. He has nine top-ten finishes this season. Bowyer trails points leader Matt Kenseth by 67 points.
