KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The UMKC Kangaroos are bouncing out of the Summit League and into the Western Athletic Conference. The school accepted an invitation to join the WAC beginning on July 1, 2013.

UMKC will be immediately eligible for the postseason in all 16 sports. The WAC holds automatic NCAA berths in every sponsored sport. UMKC Chancellor Leo E. Morton explained the move in a release.

"We accepted the invitation to join the Western Athletic Conference because of the strong potential alignment it offers with our strategic objectives related to community engagement and financial strength."

The WAC has experienced some success over its 50-year history. However, the league has been picked apart by the recent expansion of other conferences. UMKC becomes the ninth school committed to the league for the 2013-14 school year. They will join CSU Bakersfield, Chicago State, Grand Canyon, Idaho, New Mexico State, Seattle, UT-Pan American and Utah Valley.
