WASHINGTON - University of Missouri-Kansas City head men’s basketball coach Matt Brown visited to Washington D.C. Tuesday to speak at a cancer rally.

Brown was one of four Division I basketball coaches to participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer Capitol Hill rally. Brown’s 12-year-old daughter, Ally, who is a thyroid cancer survivor, was also at the rally. Brown spoke in front of cancer survivors and advocates from every state at the U.S. Capitol.

Coaches Paul Hewitt of George Mason University, Jamie Dixon of the University of Pittsburgh and Matt Doherty of Southern Methodist University also spoke at the rally to urge Congress to protect federal funding for cancer research and prevention programs.

The coaches are members of Coaches vs. Cancer, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

More than 2,000 Division I, II and III college basketball coaches and more than 100 high school coaches participate in the program.
