CASS COUNTY, Mo. - A grass fire burned about 40 to 50 acres of land at a Cass County airport Wednesday afternoon.

Fire officials say the fire started around 3:30 p.m. on the grounds of the Lawrence Smith Memorial Airport in Harrisonville.

Several area fire departments responded to the blaze, which was put under control about three hours after it started.

Northbound Missouri Highway 7 near Orchard was closed for several hours while crews worked to put out the fire.

An airport spokesman says no structures were damaged.

The airport spans 126 acres and has one runway. It's owned by the city of Harrisonville.
