PLATTE CO., Mo. - 4:30 P.M. UPDATE: All lanes of traffic are back open as of 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Missouri Highway Patrol.
According to Sgt. John Dick, the dump truck was carrying paving materials of some kind when it went off the road and into the creek below. The driver and passenger were both killed in the crash.
ORIGINAL REPORT: The Missouri Highway Patrol has responded to a truck accident stopping traffic on Interstate 29 in northern Platte County.
All lanes of traffic are closed. Reports indicated the truck is off the road and in a creek below the roadway.
According to MHP reports, there are two people confirmed to have died in the accident, and there was a fuel spill that required a hazmat cleanup.
Officers from the Platte Co. Sheriff's office and emergency services responded to the scene.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area as clean up could take hours.
