KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Authorities in Kansas City, Mo., have ended a search of the Missouri River after reports that two people jumped off the Christopher S. Bond bridge shortly before noon Thursday.
Authorities found nothing in the water during the search.
Police said plans to close the Chouteau Trafficway Bridge and the I-435 bridge over the Missouri River were not necessary. Both remained open to traffic while authorities searched early Thursday afternoon.
Police reported a man and woman were seen getting out of their cars around 11:30 a.m. on the Bond Bridge and jumping into the water.
Initial reports indicated one of them may have been carrying a small child, though police on scene say there is no indication – based on a nearby vehicle – that a child was present.
Both directions of traffic were briefly closed on the Bond Bridge. All but one southbound lane have since reopened.
