CLAYCOMO, Mo. - Three people were seriously hurt Wednesday morning in a wrong-way crash that blocked traffic on Interstate 435 for hours.
The accident happened in the northbound lanes of the interstate around 1:45 a.m. at I-35 in Claycomo. The highway was closed until just after 6 a.m.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 33-year-old man in a 2013 Hyundai Elantra was heading southbound in the northbound lanes and struck a 2006 Kia Spectra with two women inside.
The wrong-way driver and both occupants of the Spectra, ages 26 and 22, were seriously hurt, according to a Patrol crash report.
At least one person had to be extricated from a vehicle.
All three people involved were wearing seat belts, according to the report.
