LENEXA, Kan. - The 3 and 2 Baseball Club in Lenexa, Kan., will continue its tournament after a 6-year-old boy collapsed on the baseball field Wednesday evening.
Patrick Williams and his dad Christopher arrived at the baseball field at 6 p.m. for a game, but 5 minutes in Patrick left the field to go to the bathroom because he felt sick.
He collapsed before making it to the restroom.
Christopher Williams said his son is fine, but he wants the 3 and 2 league organizers to postpone play when the temperatures rise above 100 degrees.
"They need to consider these are kids, even adults shouldn't play when its this hot," Williams said.
Jeff Chalk has been organizing league play with 3 and 2 for several years. He said proper hydration and nutrition are a must before any athlete takes the field. Chalk plans to continue tournament play on Thursday evening.
"We are not going to cancel the tournament," Chalk said. "We encourage teams to have a lot of water and towels to keep players cool."
The 3 and 2 tournament will continue at 5 p.m.
