KANSAS CITY, KS - The Red Cross is the single largest blood supplier in the United States, but the organization says there is a shortage in their blood supply.
Extreme heat is keeping many donors at home and away from Red Cross blood drives.
Also, with Independence Day falling in the middle of the week, it hindered blood donations the first week of July. Fewer businesses were able to host blood drives as many employees were on vacation.
The Red Cross says all blood types are need to ensure an adequate blood supply is available. O negative is the universal blood type and can be transfused to any patient.
