KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Jackson County medical examiner has notified the Kansas City Health Department of another suspected heat-related death.
This brings the total number of deaths under investigation to four, while one death has been confirmed as heat-related for 2013.
The victim in the investigation was a woman born in 1928. Other victims have been in their mid-'60s and early '40s.
Local organizations have been trying to help seniors battle the heat. The Salvation Army and KCP&L are teaming up Friday for a fan giveaway to help seniors, and the Bishop Sullivan Center's Eldercool program helps elderly residents with getting air conditioners and paying high utility bills.
