KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Kansas City area Monday evening. The alert is in effect until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Among the areas included in the watch are Atchison, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties in Kansas, and Buchanan, Clay, Clinton, Jackson, Johnson, Platte and Ray counties in Missouri.
