KANSAS CITY, Mo. - If recent snowstorms have sapped your energy or made you feel moody, there could be a valid medical reason for that.
Rough weather, like we've been having here in Kansas City, can actually make you "SAD."
"SAD" stands for seasonal affective disorder.
The disorder is a form of depression affected by the weather.
"The symptoms are a period of depressed mood or down mood for a time that's actually seasonal, so we can actually track a pattern," says clinical psychology fellow Jennifer Prohaska, PhD.
Seasonal affective disorder can be treated with light therapy, and, in some cases, medication.
