Grammy nominees for Record of the Year, Classical performances have Kansas City connections

LOS ANGELES - The 2012 Grammy nominations are out, and three area performances were nominated.

The album "Life and Breath," composed by Rene Clausen and perfomed by the Kansas City Chorale was nominated for the "Best Engineered Album-- Classical."

Joyce DiDonato was nominated for the best classical vocal solo.

DiDonato nomination came from a performance with the Kansas City Symphony earlier this year for the PBS program "Symphony."

One of the most popular tunes of the year, "We Are Young" by the band Fun. featuring vocalist Janelle Monáe, was nominated for "Record of the Year." Monáe is originally from Kansas City, Kan.

The Grammy Awards will be presented February 10, 2013 in Los Angeles.
