Happy Hour How-To: Barrel-aged cocktails and the "Too Sly"

Have you ever heard of barrel-aged drinks? They're becoming all the rage. Brock Schulte, mixologist at The Drum Room, talks about the drinks' popularity and creates a variety of unique cocktails using local spirits. He even creates a drink specially made for Kansas City Mayor Sly James.


Vladimir Nazlymov

¾ oz. Samogon
¾ oz. Cocci Americana Rosa
¾ oz  Royal Montaine Orange Liqueur
¾ oz  Aperol

Mix in barrel and let it sit for at least 30 days before serving.  

Barrel Aged Martinez

2 oz St. George Terroir Gin
1 oz Dolin Sweet Vermouth
1 bspn Luxardo Marashino Liquor
3 d Bitter Truth Orange Bitters

Creole Cocktail

2 parts Long Shot White Whisky
1 Dry Vermouth
1 Sweet Vermouth
.25 Benedictine
.25 Averna
Orange Bitters

Aged in a barrel for 30 days

Too Sly

1.5 oz Plantation OP Rum
.75 oz Lime Juice
1 oz Strawberry Vanilla Cordial
.5 oz Falernum
Dash of Simple Syrup

Shake and Strain into Martini Glass
