Oceans of Fun expands, merges with Worlds of Fun into single park

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Worlds of Fun announced Friday a massive expansion to Oceans of Fun, which will combine the two into a single-admission amusement park.

Six slides will be added by the time the new mega-park opens in 2013, nearly doubling Oceans of Fun's current slide capacity.

The expansion comes with Worlds of Fun's 40th anniversary, and is the largest-ever addition to Oceans of Fun.

"Our 40th anniversary season will be Worlds of Fun's biggest yet," Worlds of Fun Vice President and General Manager Frank Wilburn said in a statement. "We look forward to expanding and improving what is already a world-class amusement park and waterpark."

The six new slides will all be housed on a 65-foot-tall complex overlooking Surf City Wave Pool.

Perched atop will be three flat line loop slides that begin with the floor dropping out from underneath riders.

A double-tube "constrictor" slide is one of three enclosed slides also among the addition.

Other additions and renovations visitors in 2013 will notice include new cabanas and more lounge chairs, new stores and renovated slide complexes and pool areas.

Season passes for the 2013 season start at $84.99 for adults and $74.99 for children.
