A judge ordered Daniel Mireles to walk back and forth along a
busy Houston road Saturday holding up a sign that read, “I am
a thief. I stole $250,000 from the Harris County crime
But this is no slap on the wrist.
Mireles must stand at a city intersection and hold the sign for
five hours every weekend for the next six years. He was also
sentenced to spend some time behind bars.
Mireles says his punishment is getting mixed reviews.
“I’ve been stopped by two gentlemen who don’t
approve of me walking the street,” he told a reporter.
“They don’t approve of what I did, but they don’t
approve of this.”
Mireles’s wife was also convicted of theft in July.
