KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Local activists are calling on the government to stop wasteful spending.
The American Friends Service Committee held a vigil Tuesday afternoon at 1200 Main Street.
According to the group, 60 percent of spending in the president's proposed 2012 budget goes to the military and that is too much.
"We think that people should demand that the percentage reflects the real security needs of citizens… creating jobs, health care, and turning this economic crisis around," said Ira Harritt of the American Friends Service Committee.
The event was organized to coincide with the Global Day of Action on Military Spending.
