Zoo seeks public help in naming baby elephant

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Zoo wants the public's help in naming a roughly 300-pound baby Asian elephant.

The baby was born last Friday at the zoo to mother Rani and father Raja.

As part of a poll running through July 4, anyone may vote on four finalist names the zoo has chosen. The names are June; Kenzi (KEN'-zee), meaning "my treasure"; Zoe (ZOH'-ee), meaning "life"; or Mya (MY'-uh), meaning "emerald."

Votes will be taken online at www.stlzoo.org, www.facebook.com/stlzoo or www.twitter.com/stlzoo. Votes also can be cast at the zoo's welcome desk or by mailing a "Vote for the Baby Elephant Name" postcard with your name, address and suggestion to: Name the Baby Elephant, St. Louis Zoo, 1 Government Drive, St. Louis, Mo., 63110.

The winning name will be announced next Tuesday.
