Newsome discovers TRX and Viper workout helps build strength

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - If you're tired of hand weights, there's something new you should try. It's called the TRX and Viper workout. I gave it a shot last week at the Midtown Athletic Club in Overland Park, Kan.
My workout buddy this week, Suzi Blackman, met me at Midtown Athletic Club last Friday for the Back in the Swing Cookbook launch and exercise event. Suzi convinced me that trying something new would be fun.
I have to admit she was right. Personal Trainer Dylan Briggs put us through the paces and when we completed the workout, every muscle in our body was engaged!
The TRX is a system of ropes with handles allowing you to lean while you're standing and do push-ups, bicep curls and stretches.
The Viper is a weighted rubber cylinder (There are all weights and I had the lightest one) that you hold and lift or swing to each side. We used it to do lunges, overhead lifts and twists.
Suzi and I had a great time. We didn't do every move perfectly, but we were in there swinging and sweating.

Here's Suzi's healthy recipe for fat-fee chocolate cupcakes.
1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour, 3/4 cup white sugar or sugar substitute,,1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2/3 cup fat-free plain yogurt, 1/2 cup skim milk, 4 egg whites, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix dry and wet ingredients separately, then stir until well combined. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake papers or spray with nonstick zero-calorie spray, fill each cup 2/3 full with batter. Bake 15-20 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center of one of the cupcakes comes out clean. Enjoy!!!!
