KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Lenexa diaper bank unloaded one million diapers into its warehouse Monday to be donated to babies in need throughout the metro.
Five truckloads arrived at the warehouse, where huge stacks reached all the way to the ceiling.
The organization Happy Bottoms received the donation from Huggies.
Earlier this year, the non-profit partnered with the National Diaper Bank Network. They knew they were in line to receive a million diapers, but didn't know they would all come at once.
Happy Bottoms currently provides diapers to 1,000 babies a month. This donation will help them serve 300-500 additional kids this year.
Liz Sutherlin, executive director of Happy Bottoms, says large donations like this one are essential.
"We try to be that ongoing supply for families, because it isn't just one day or one month that these families need diapers," she said. "You need them every single day while that child is at diaper age."
The look on parent's faces makes her job worthwhile, Sutherlin added with a smile.
"We all want to be good parents and take care of our kids, and if there's a resource you don't have that helps their wellbeing, you feel really bad," she said. "Yet, when you can help these kids you feel really good about it."
Happy Bottoms encourages all the parents helping them with diaper drives to keep up the hard work.
