KANSAS CITY, Missouri - It's another year at the top for Jacob when it comes to popular baby names for boys in Missouri and Kansas, but there's a new name at the top of the list for girls.
More Missourians named their newborn baby boys Jacob than any other name in 2010 for the 17th consecutive year, while Kansans picked that name the most for the 13th time in the last 16 years, according to numbers compiled by the Social Security Administration.
But following the national trend , Missouri and Kansas both saw a new name at the top of the girls' list. Isabella replaced Emma as the most popular name on the list after seven years in the top spot in Missouri and six out of seven in Kansas.
Names for girls didn't vary much on the top of the list in Kansas and Missouri. Both states had the same names make up their top 5 (Isabella, Emma, Olivia, Sophia, Ava), but in different orders.
But as far as boys' names go, Kansans and Missourians seem to differ a bit. William joined Jacob as the only name to appear in both states' list, with Missourians liking Mason, Logan and Jackson and Kansans liking Alexander, Ethan and Elijah.
