World Series of Barbecue event brings nations best pitmasters to the American Royal

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Teams from across the country are converging on the American Royal Saturday, trying to win the World Series of Barbecue event.

Event organizers noted that over 500 teams would compete in the Open event, with 100 teams in the Saturday Invitational. The teams in the Invitational event will be judged on Chicken, pork ribs, pork shoulder and beef brisket.

In addition to the barbecue competition, visitors can see a product expo, cooking demonstrations and a Kids Korral. During ceremonies Saturday night, the Barbecue Hall of Fame will induct three new members, kettle grill inventor George Stephen, Sr., pitmaster and restaurateur Myron Mixon and chef and author Adam Perry Lang.

Tickets can still be purchased to attend the event, but organizers remind visitors that the competition food is not meant for sampling.
