Valentine's Day is still a about a month away but Toby Tobin has some great Honey Do's that are going to get you way ahead of the game!
The drink the astronauts made famous is the secret formula for cleaning your front loading washing machine. To an empty washer add 1/4 cup of Tang powdered drink mix. Run a quick wash cycle using hot water. This cleans the detergent and mineral buildup from your washer and also cleans the pipes. You want to do this about once per month.
For your dishwasher add two cups of bleach to the bottom of an empty machine and run through a wash cycle. Then you'll want to add four cups of white vinegar and run through another wash cycle. This cleans the machine, mineral deposits and freshens the inside of your dishwasher. You'll want to do this about four times per year.
For your refrigerator be sure to vacuum out the coils and any dirt buildup on the back of the machine. This will extend the life and help it run much more efficiently.
Now I have some really easy Honey Do's! Pick up the phone and call your favorite garage door company. The expansion and contraction in winter can cause alignment problems for garage doors. For under a hundred bucks a reputable company will align your door, replace batteries, lubricate and align your door. This needs to be done annually. Also have them check the weather seal on the door and make sure this is closing all the way. This is the easiest place for rodents to enter your home.
And finally... pick up the phone once again and schedule a dryer vent cleaning. Lint buildup is the leading cause of home fires in the U.S. You should have this done once a year.
Just remember cleaning our appliances properly about every 30 to 45 days can extend the life of them 30 percent! We'll see you next week!
