Tips From Toby: Preparing for grilling season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It’s time to fire up those grills and we’ve got a great recipe to add some sizzle. My good friends Pepe and Silvia Barrera have just opened their second Luna Azteca Mexican Grill location and the food is some of the best I’ve ever had in my life. So let’s get those grills running safely so you can add this fantastic Fajita Recipe to your backyard menu this Spring!

The most common form of home fires at this time of year is caused by backyard barbecues. Even worse many people get burned badly or are killed from propane tank explosions. Those rubber hoses that connect your propane tank to your grill become very brittle over the winter and pests like mice and squirrels love to chew on them. Take a spray bottle with water and about a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and spray it over all the tank seals, hose and connections. If you see any leaks, or bubbles replace the hose or tank immediately.

All that left over grease and build up can cause the flame elements to get clogged and lower the efficiency of your grill. Give it and good cleaning with just hot water and a scrub brush and get it cleaned up before you fire it up! Once you are all cleaned up, we have this fantastic fajita recipe from our friends at Luna Azteca on the website. The marinade will add fantastic flavor to your ho hum chicken. This is a very easy recipe to make and when you add some great veggies like peppers and tomatoes. Toss in some warm tortillas and you have a fantastic meal that will keep you going back to that newly cleaned grill all Summer.

Clean your grill and check for any leaks this weekend and you are in for a fajita treat that will make your mouth water!

Before you start up that grill, please do me a big favor and check to make sure you have no leaks for your safety.
