Kids in the Kitchen is a fun, interactive and challenging way for students to learn about healthy cooking and eating.

Classes meet for several weeks and during each class kids are involved in hands-on preparation for at least one recipe.

Some classes are led by nutrition counselors with Harvesters; but Harvesters will also train others to teach the class. The classes are free to children between the ages of 5 and 18 from low-income families.

The Kids in the Kitchen program has many benefits. Research has shown that a healthy diet helps kids do well in school. Also, kids who eat healthy are more likely to make good food and nutrition choices as adults.

Harvesters Nutrition Coordinator Jule Huse said, "Cooking gives children a creative outlet, builds confidence and teaches them skills that are useful at home."

Harvesters serves a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. For more information, visit Harvesters' website.
