Haunted winery raises spirits in Liberty, brings national 'Ghost Hunters'

LIBERTY, Mo. - Jesse Leimkuehler used to be a skeptic, but not anymore.

In 1993, when his father-in-law bought the 170 acres that held the old Odd Fellows Home in Liberty, Leimkuehler heard all the stories about how it was haunted. So when he took on the task of rehabbing the buildings to create a winery and event space, he was prepared for the noises and strange events.

Leimkuehler dismissed them as normal for an old building, at least at first.

"It's only when you get those sort of incidents where there's just absolutely no explanation that you start to think maybe there's a little more to it," Leimkuehler admitted.

He is not the only one who has heard the noises or felt a tug on his shirt when no one is around. Guests at the Belvoir Winery , open nearly three years now, report incidents all the time.

In fact, so many of them called the Syfy Network's " Ghost Hunters " program about Belvoir that the show sent a crew there.

"They did come out in February for several days and did the investigation over two nights," Leimkuehler said.

The episode is slated to air Wednesday, June 26, at 8:00 PM.
