KANSAS CITY, Mo. - There are safe ways to get around Kansas City this New Year's Eve without spending a dime.
The "ScooterGuy" will be available to drive people home from bars or parties until 3 a.m. for free. Of course, tips will be gratefully accepted.
The service provides a sober, licensed driver to meet you at your requested pickup location. The driver will take you and your car home. Then, another ScooterGuy worker will pick up the driver before heading off to their next customer. With this service, the customers don't have to fetch their cars in the morning.
Organizers said it's not just a service for people who are drinking.
"You hear of so many people who get hurt by drunk drivers, so it's safe, yes, for the person who's driving or been out drinking, but also for all the people who are out on the roads," said ScooterGuy owner Scott Patschkes.
All you have to do is call 816-867-4115 to set up your sober ride.
The service runs New Year's Eve night from 5 p.m. until 3 a.m. For more information on ScooterGuy, visit kansascity.goscooterguy.com.
The KC Strip, the trolley transportation system that operates on the weekends, will also offer free rides until 3 a.m. The route runs from the historic jazz district, at 18th and Vine, to Waldo. Stops include Westport, the Country Club Plaza, the Power & Light District and Brookside.
Several police departments are planning on stepping up patrols to watch for drunk drivers -- including Olathe and Shawnee.
