We visited a living room this morning.  Not just any living room. This one is more of an art gallery.

Savanna Williams has been painting since she was 3 years old. Now, at age 8, she is using her gift to help children she will probably never meet.

Last year, she helped Rwandan orphans.

This year, on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center, Savanna will do her art-part to help kids with cancer at the St. Jude Children’s Research Center.

According to her full-time dad and part-time curator, Brian Williams, Savanna saw a television program about a child who died from cancer and knew she had to do something. She got her canvasses and brushes and went to work. This time Savanna’s inspiration was her favorite team, the Kansas City Royals.

Savanna looks at scenes with which we are all very familiar, like the fountains at the K or the giant flag unfurled in the outfield, and creates interpretations that express more than the original image.

The Williams family calls Savanna’s projects Angel Hands Art. When Savanna was born weeks premature, there was a photo taken of her tiny hands clutching the fingers of her parents. Those are the Angel Hands.

Now, the miracle that is Savanna is using her amazing talent to create miracles for others.
