KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Forget traditional golf clubs, putting irons and the big bulky golf bags-- I tried a new version of golf that only requires one soccer ball and a golf course with some giant holes. And of course...you!
I went to the Heart of America Golf Academy in Swope Park where General Manager Craig Martin gave me a few pointers. Similar to traditional golf, there is a tee area where you place the ball to start the game. You are allowed one kick and each hole is rated as 1, 2, or 3 par. You kick the ball until the ball goes into the giant hole.
I discovered there's a real trick to kicking the ball and you really have to watch the angle of your foot to try and steer the ball to the hole. The best part about it was of course scoring, but I also enjoyed walking along the golf course and the beautiful scenery. And, there is a lot of walking which is great exercise.
Craig is a great teacher. He's also has two children and loves to bring them to the golf course to try foot Golf as well as traditional golf.
"I think sports is (sic) a great way for dads to connect with their children and watch them grow and develop from children to teens to young adults," Martin said.
Heart of America Golf Academy has putting greens and a driving range and the First Tee Program teaching children how to play golf. It is part of the Kansas City Parks Department.
