Two cites are recognizing Wayside Waifs, which is celebrating 70 years.
The nonprofit, no kill shelter formed in 1944. Wayside works to place more than 5,000 pets per year. The shelter says pets can stay until they find a home, however long that is.
"It's an organization that truly cares not just about animals, but also about people and making healthy connections between people and pets," Wayside Waifs president Geoff Hall said.
Hall says the organization helps with rescues all over the country.
Kansas City, Missouri has a proclamation ceremony Wednesday afternoon. The city of Grandview will present a proclamation Thursday.
