Remember when Captain Kangaroo or Mr. Rogers would turn a plain old shoebox into something amazing, like a boat or robot or some other cardboard contraption?

Well, this weekend The Captain and Fred will be smiling down on Union Station at the 7th Annual Maker Faire Kansas City!

It is a family-friendly event on Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:00 a.m.

More than 300 Makers will be filling the Union Station spaces with their handiwork like jewelry, 3D printing creations, wood-working, and, as Science Educator Ryan Bell showed us this morning, the fascinating things you can make and become with a cardboard box.

There is also a Maker Couture fashion show, a 30-foot-egg drop, lowriders, cosplay, food trucks and on and on and on.

For the first time in the event’s history, there will be a concert, with headliner Anderson East.

That’s planned for Saturday night on the beautiful new green space next to “kidzone!”

Tickets start at $9 for Union Station members but are reasonably priced for everybody.

Here’s the bottom line: if you can think it, Maker Faire can do it! Think of it as the Greatest Show (& Tell) in town!
