Steve Huff, KC's Father of the Year, talks about importance of dads spending quality time

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Steve Huff of Topeka, Kan., was named Father of the Year 2014 Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium in an event sponsored by the National Center for Fathering based in Shawnee, Kansas.

Huff's son, Braxton, wrote an essay nominating his dad.  In an interview Thursday on 41 Action News Midday, Steve Huff talked about how important it is for dads to spend time with their children.

"I think being a good dad is just about being there for your kids," said Huff.

In the winning essay, Huff's son praised his dad for attending his sporting events and going with him to a concert. the elder Huff said he was honored to be chosen.

"I tell other dads to know what's happening in your child's life and get involved," he explained. "It's just about spending time with your kids and showing them that you care."
