LEAWOOD, Kan. - I had an unusual offer for my Wednesday Workout this week. Typically people invite me to their workout and I meet them at a gym, a fitness center or a park. For my workout this week, I was exercising in one place while my workout-buddy was exercising in a totally different location. It's a new trend in online workouts called the Wello Workout.
Wello personal trainer, Lisa Taranto Butler, of Leawood, Kan., invited me to logon and get fit! The Wello system is much like Skype. I logon and enroll and then schedule a workout. Wello sends reminder notices before the workout and follow-up notes from the personal trainer after the workout.
Once I got on the site, Lisa and I could see and hear each other. During the workout she was encouraging, upbeat and very clear about her instructions to me. She would also correct me if my form was not right
I love the convenience of not having to go to a gym. I also liked being able to talk one-on-one with the personal trainer.
Wello has been around for about two years and it's becoming more popular. People can choose types of workouts and levels of expertise so that they are matched with a trainer to meet their needs. It's also possible for people in separate locations to form a group workout and meet online.
Lisa said that many of her clients are moms with young children.
"They prefer working out at home," said Lisa Butler.
I had a great time and enjoyed the live, online workout.
