KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Zumba is definitely a workout I would try again. I loved the music, the moves and the people!
I went to the Zumba class at the Red Bridge YMCA in Kansas City, Mo., on Tuesday night. When I walked in, the music was already playing and it put everyone in a fun mood. It was easy to put the day behind and focus on having fun and getting healthy.
The class was a great mix of ages and skill levels. Some people knew the Zumba routines and all the moves and others, like me, were a step behind and struggling to keep up with the instructor. There were about 40 people there so it was crowded but the music kept us going and smiling! I was so focused on getting the moves that I didn't realize that I was giving my muscles a great workout.
The Zumba class is one of many group exercise programs and classes offered at the YMCA in greater Kansas City. Jessica Velasquez, YMCA Health Coach, explained that the Y has three new programs. There's a new class called Y Weight.
"Our weight loss program offers weekly group meetings to help you stay on track and achieve your permanent weight loss goals. Taught by registered dietitians, you can join Y Weight at any time and begin your healthy weight loss journey immediately," Valezquez said.
Another program is called Coaching Connections.
"You can meet one-on-one with a Healthy Living Coach for a 30-minute session each week for six weeks. Your coach will work with you to create a wellness plan to help support your individual health goals and help you get connected at the Y," she said.
Finally there's the Quick Start program.
"A Healthy Living Coach will introduce you to a workout that fits your physical abilities and fitness goals in this free, one-time session for 30 minutes. Beginner to advanced workouts are available to help you get started quickly," Valezquez said.
