Microsoft to cut up to 18,000 jobs over coming year

(NBC News) - Clouds had been on the horizon in recent days for Microsoft and on Thursday, the storm arrived. 

Microsoft announced they will be cutting up to 18,000 jobs around the country over the next year. 

New Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella explained the cuts as part of an effort to transform the company for what he called a "mobile first and cloud first world."

Nokia looks to bare the brunt of the layoffs with 12,000 of the layoffs coming from their branch.
