KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Whole Foods Market on 51st Street celebrated its grand opening Wednesday.

The new store is below the new Brookside 51 apartments near UMKC.

Whole Foods hired about 75 employees for the location.

The store has a taproom with local beer, wine and liquor. It also has fresh produce from farms in Missouri and Kansas.

Whole Foods officials said they want customers to be able to get fresh items from places with which they are familiar.

The Metcalf location in Overland Park, Kansas, closed but Whole Foods said some of those employees will work at the new location.
