KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City has extended the payment deadline until January 7 for customers enrolling through the federal marketplace.
To have coverage on January 1, consumers need to sign up by December 23 on the federal website. Consumers also had a December 31 deadline to pay for that coverage to begin January 1.
HHS recently asked insurance providers to extend the payment deadline. Blue KC this week announced an extension to Tuesday, January 7.
The insurance company still recommends you contact whatever insurance carrier you choose to go with and make payment as quickly as possible to make sure you have coverage for the new year.
"We're taking a very proactive approach by calling every single person that's signed up for coverage to validate that their information is correct," Wayne Powell with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City said.
Powell said insurance carriers want to make sure the payment process is complete to avoid any disruption in coverage.

How to Submit Payment
Customers may pay for their insurance using a credit or debit card, electronic funds transfer, check, cash or money order. Payments can be made for Blue KC plans:
· Over the phone by calling Blue KC customer service at 1-800-645-8346
· In person at either Live Blue wellness center locations (Live Blue cannot accept cash or EFTs)
· In person at our main office customer service center (2301 Main St., Kansas City, MO)
· By mail - If mailed call Blue KC to verify your payment was received
Payments submitted in person are considered received at time of submission.
Walk-ins at Blue KC headquarters: M-F, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed on 12/24 and 12/25).
