The Leawood landlord who’s been the focus of a Call for Action investigation was found incompetent to stand trial.
Former section 8 landlord Edy Hinton appeared in a Johnson County courtroom in a wheel chair and spitting into a surgical mask.
OLATHE, Kan. - The Leawood landlord who's been the focus of a Call for Action investigation learned her fate Thursday.
Last summer, Edy Hinton Ikenokwalu was banned by the Housing Authority of Kansas City from renting to Section 8 tenants after she overcharged one of her renters.
Following a Call for Action investigation, the Johnson County District Attorney's office re-filed criminal charges against her for a 2011 incident at a JC Penny's.
Hinton recently underwent two mental health evaluations. One determined she was competent to stand trial, the other found her not competent.

Prosecutors agreed with the incompetent evaluation, on the condition that Hinton would be sent to a state mental hospital for treatment.
The judge ordered her to Larned State Hospital. She is out on bond until bed space becomes available at the facility.
