Veterans Day freebies & discounts

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Friday is a day to honor America's veterans, and many places around Kansas City are offering freebies or discounts to those who have served.

Applebee's will give all veterans and active duty service members a free meal all day.

Veterans must provide proof of service, which includes a U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform or wearing uniform, DD214, Citation or Commendation.

Nick and Jake's , in Overland Park and Parkville, is offering veterans and active military members a free lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Waterway Carwash is offering a free car wash and discounted gasoline at all four of its Kansas City-area locations. Visit http://www.waterway.com for more.

Price Chopper is offering a 25-cent discount on your next fill-up for gas. Veterans need to bring their Chopper Shopper REWARDS card and either their VA card, VFW card, DD214 or other veterans ID to any Price Chopper store on Nov. 11.

Also, many restaurants in the following chains are offering freebies. However, many are independently owned, so not all may offer these.

Some more of this year's offers include:

* Outback Steakhouse: get a free Bloomin Onion .

* Texas Roadhouse offers vets a free lunch entree.

* TGI Friday has a buy 1 entree, get 1 free special all day .

* Subway is offering a free 6-inch sub.

* Chili's has a free lunch combo.

* Some Applebees, not all, will offer free entrees.

* Some Olive Gardens will offer a free dinner entree .

With any of these deals, call to see if your local restaurant is participating and if you need a reservation.

Also, be sure to bring some sort of military ID or uniform, so you don't waste your money.
