KCK business wins national contest, to compete for $1 million

KANSAS CITY, MO. - A start-up business in the Metro has a shot at $1 million after winning a national competition.

EyeVerify  of Kansas City, Kansas, beat seven other finalists from across the United States to win Monday night's Get In The Ring: The American StartUp Clash .

EyeVerify has created a way for smartphone users to scan their retinas instead of having to use passwords.

Kauffman Foundation hosted the contest as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week . Event organizers hope this event encourages more start-up businesses.              

"The idea is that everybody can do this, you don't have to be in Silicon Valley. You can come from communities all around the country," said Jonathan Robinson, Manager of Entrepreneurship Program at Kauffman Foundation, "

EyeVerify creator Toby Rush will now travel to the Netherlands for Friday's international competition of Get In The Ring  for the larger $1 million in funding.
