OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Sprint, one of the area's largest employers, is making layoffs.
A Sprint spokesperson confirmed Monday afternoon the company will be laying off around 120 employees across the country.
Spokeswoman Melinda Tiemeyer said 20 jobs will be leaving Kansas City. She said the reason for the layoffs is actually because of improvements made in customer satisfaction.
In a statement to 41 Action News, Tiemeyer said, "We've been changing our internal procedures and that has resulted in employee reductions of less than 120 employees.... It's not anything driven by a performance issue, but by improvements in customer satisfaction."
Those being laid off are in the "performance management" sector within call centers.
Sprint employs around 7,500 people in Kansas City and 40,000 nationwide.
