OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Hundreds of job seekers packed the Overland Park Convention Center Wednesday for a job fair with 70 employers looking to fill 500 positions.
All of the businesses at the fair - which included Time Warner Cable, AT&T, Bed Bath & Beyond and Macy's - had to pay to attend, so the employers were taking a serious interest in making some hires.
Some of the jobs available included seasonal retail positions, distribution and warehouse jobs, transportation opportunities and a few management positions.
Jeffrey Jordan is about to lose his job because the company he works for is closing, and he says an event like this can cram a months' worth of research into an afternoon.
"Having all these people in one place, it's really just convenient," Jordan said.
Organizers said about 400 people pre-registered for the event, and they expected about 400 walk-ins.
The fair closed at 2 p.m.
