Two people died after police tried to pull them over and they fled Saturday night.
KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Police say a car that at one point was being chased by police crashed in Kansas City’s Brookside neighborhood Sunday morning, killing both people inside.
Authorities say officers spotted a car driving erratically about 8:20 a.m. in the area of Ward Parkway and Meyer Boulevard and initiated a chase with the vehicle.
Police backed off, but moments later, the car went around two vehicles at a high rate of speed crashed at Meyer Boulevard and Main Street.
The driver, 26-year-old Matthew R. Shacklett and his only passenger, 29-year-old Trevor R. Olson, both of Overland Park, Kansas, were pronounce dead at the scene.
The crash knocked over a traffic light pole on the east part of the intersection.
The impact sent the car's transmission a half-block away, and forced one tire to roll down the block.
The intersection was closed for about 40 minutes so crews could clean up the debris and tow away the car.
