KANSAS CITY, Mo. - On Friday, September 21, I will make my pitching debut at Kauffman Stadium. As a breast cancer survivor, I was invited to throw the first pitch to promote the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on October 27, at the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, Mo.
Throwing the first pitch is a great honor and I want to throw a great one. So, I enlisted the help of a professional; former Royals pitcher Jaime Bluma, who is now the pitching coach at 68 Inside Sports .
My husband, Ed, is my practice catcher. We met Bluma at the stadium last Thursday and he taught me the tricks of the trade.
He showed me how to hold the ball, pivot and throw.
Bluma said I was definitely teachable, but I need to practice more before the big day.
Bluma was a great sport and we laughed at my high, wide pitches. But, I did throw a couple of pitches that Ed was able to catch.
I would love to have your support at the Royals game on September 21. I'm also hoping for a great turnout at the Making Strides against Breast Cancer Walk. Please join the walk and let's strike a blow against breast cancer.
