Bridal store gives free gowns to military brides

LENEXA, Kan. - A Lenexa bridal store will give away 300 dresses to military brides Tuesday and Wednesday in support and appreciation of those who serve in the armed forces.

Belle Vogue Bridal will open their store from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for engaged women in the armed forces and women whose fiancés are in the military.

The 300 gowns are new gowns donated by the designers and the store, and retail for as much as $2,900.

Store manager Ann Hafner said the store is doing this fundraiser for the third year in a row to give back to military brides.

"Members of the armed forces not only sacrifice their lives for our country, but they also often sacrifice their dream wedding," she explained. "Every bride deserves to feel beautiful on her special day regardless of time constraints, or whether she is having a big wedding ceremony or Justice of the Peace ceremony. Our goal is to make her feel stunning."

Hafner says the reaction from the women is touching.

"There are many tears, tears of joy and happiness. There are lots of smiles and over the moon happy with everything we have to offer to them," she said.

There are still 40 appointments available.

Military brides that want to participate in this event must fulfill certain requirements to be eligible for a free gown.

Brides need to make an appointment and present their current military ID or their future spouse's military ID at the time of their appointment.

A bride or her fiancé must be a serving member of the military and presently, previously, or will soon be deployed.

Qualified couples must be engaged or have had a civil ceremony and/or are planning their special day within the next 18 months.

The bride-to-be, or her future spouse, needs to have served in the military in the past five years.

To reserve a 30-minute appointment on Tuesday or Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., brides-to-be can call Belle Vogue Bridal at 913-317-8981. Belle Vogue is located at 8135 Lenexa Dr., Lenexa, Kan., 66214.
