2 charged in ATV crash that killed Shawnee Mission East soccer player Tyler Rathbun

MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. - Two people have been charged in connection with an ATV crash that killed a Shawnee Mission East student last November.

William Mahaffy Sutherland, 18, is charged with aggravated endangering a child and unlawfully hosting minors consuming alcohol. Taylor M. Sheets, 18, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence.

The charges stem from an ATV accident in rural Miami County, Kan., that killed 17-year-old Tyler R. Rathbun of Westwood. The teen was on the ATV with three friends when it rolled over at Victory Road and 395th St. on Nov. 25.

Rathbun was a soccer player at Shawnee Mission East.

Sutherland's bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety. Sheets' is set at $15,000 cash or surety.
