KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A 16-year-old boy was certified to stand trial as an adult Monday in a shooting outside a Kansas City high school.
Arieous K. Walton-Merritt shot the victim during an altercation after school at Ruskin High on Nov. 30, 2012, according to documents supporting the charges against him.
Walton-Merritt is charged with one count each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
According to Jackson County prosecutors, Walton-Merritt arrived to the high school in a white Chevrolet Cavalier and got out when he located the victim.
Walton-Merritt told police he confronted the victim over a stolen X-Box. The victim told police Walton-Merritt shot a rifle several times, striking him in the leg with the first shot.
