PLATTE CITY, Missouri - A 20-year-old man was charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend's father on Friday.
Prosecutors have charged Brandon L. Church of Platte City with second-degree murder in the death of Kerry Deyo.
According to court documents, officers were called shortly after midnight to a home in the 1800 block of Gates Drive West on a report of a person not breathing. Dispatchers told police the man had been involved in a physical altercation and the suspects fled from the scene.
Officers found Kerry Dreyo lying on the floor of the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim's wife told police she and her husband were awakened by the sounds of their daughter, Sarah Deyo, and Church arguing.
According to court documents, Kerry Dreyo attempted to intercede in the argument and Chruch allegedly struck him repeatedly in the face with his fists.
The victim's wife told police that Church then said, "I don't think he's breathing, let's get out of here."
Church and Sarah Deyo then left the home.
Church and Sara Deyo were located by officers in southern Platte County, where they were taken into custody.
Sarah Deyo has been charged with a misdemeanor of providing alcohol to Church, who a minor. She was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Church is currently being held in the Platte County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
